Owners of Certain 2020 – 2022 Hyundai and Kia SUV’s Advised of Fire Risk

25 melting incidents or fires have been reported in the US and Canada by Hyundai and Kia.  Both Hyundai and Kia motors are advising certain Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade model owners to park their cars outside and away from structures, due to a potential fire risk. The recalls impact more than 245,000 Hyundai Palisade and over 36,000 Kia Telluride SUVs, model years 2020-2022. The issue is allegedly caused by faulty trailer hitch wiring due to the accumulation of moisture and debris. There is no fix for this defect as yet, though engineers are working towards a solution.

In the interim, Hyundai is offering a temporary repair for Palisade owner, though Kia is not. According to Hyundai, dealers will inspect the wiring and remove a fuse as an interim repair. No additional affected vehicles will be sold by either manufacturer until a fix is found. You can read about the Kia Telluride recall on the NHTSA.gov website.
