Owners of 2020 Chevy Silverados, including the popular Chevrolet 1500 truck, have complained of transmission problems with their new trucks. Many Chevrolet Dealers have brushed off these complaints, claiming the truck just needs to be “broken in” and the problems will resolve. The 2020 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra have a new Allison 10-Speed 10L1000 transmission that has exhibited issues allegedly caused by a faulty torque converter lockup mechanism. Many of the issues with the transmission have reportedly started when the truck has been on the road for between 10,000 and 20,000 miles. If you are driving a 2020 Chevy Silverado with transmission issues that have not been repaired, you could be entitled to a Chevy lemon law claim.
What are some specific vehicle owner complaints about the 2020 Chevy Silverado Transmission?
- Hard shifting – owners claim that the vehicle shifts so rough that it almost feels like they have purchased a used vehicle rather than new. Models with the base engine seem to experience more of a hard shift than other models.
- Trouble downshifting – many buyers purchased the Chevy Silverado to use for towing or hauling, which implies a large load.
- Sudden jerking – new vehicle owners have complained about this issue, especially when the vehicle is cold first thing in the morning. The jerking has effected some Silverados with low mileage.
- Faulty OnStar Warning to “Check Transmission & Engine” – Chevy owners can sign up for the OnStar program to receive alerts. Some owners have received emails with unexplained transmission or engine warnings that advise the vehicle must be serviced in 7 days. This has occurred even without any symptoms or issues with the 2020 Chevy Silverado. When the vehicle is taken in for service, nothing can be found.

My 2020 sliverado is having transmission replace after 3 yrs no loaner vehi cle been in shop for over a week and still do not have transmission in . Chevy is no longer about customer service .
My 2020 Silverado 1500 broke down in traffic with complete transmission failure. It has 20,000 miles and while Chevy is honoring the warranty, I’ve been without a truck for 4 weeks and the dealer says it will be many more weeks until it is ready. The dealer will charge me for a loaner and I think that is totally unfair. After paying over $50k for a vehicle, I am inconvenienced and deprived of its use for months. Bad move, Chevy.
My 2020 1500 Silverado LT has the towing package and it just started hesitating like it was grabbing then releasing after shifting (like a hesitation) between 2nd and while in 3rd, it has the 8 speed transmission and 73,376 miles. This started about 3 weeks ago.
