Honda is recalling over 750,000 vehicles due to a potential airbag issue, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem involves faulty airbag sensors that could mistakenly deploy the airbags during a crash. The affected vehicles include various models such as the Honda Pilot, Civic sedan, HR-V, Odyssey, Fit, Civic Coupe, Civic hatchback, Civic Type R, Insight, CR-V, CR-V hybrid, Passport, Ridgeline, and Accord hybrid from the years 2020 to 2022.

What Issue Does ThIs Honda Recall Address?

The issue stems from a weight sensor in the front passenger seat that may crack and short-circuit, preventing the airbags from turning off as intended. This malfunction could lead to unintended airbag deployment, posing a risk of injury to occupants.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported due to this defect. The defect was first reported between June 30, 2020, and Jan. 19. Honda plans to notify affected customers starting March 18, allowing them to schedule an appointment with a Honda dealer for inspection. If necessary, the dealer will replace the weight sensor at no cost.

What Was the Specific Cause of This Latest Honda Recall?

Honda attributes the problem to a supplier’s temporary substitution of materials during manufacturing, potentially straining the circuit board of the weight sensor. The estimated number of affected vehicles stands at 750,114, although the exact distribution across models remains unclear.

This isn’t the first time Honda has faced recalls in recent times. Last month, approximately 106,000 CR-V hybrid vehicles were recalled due to a missing fuse that could pose fire risks. In December, over 2.5 million cars in the U.S. were recalled because of a fuel pump issue, with an additional 2 million vehicles recalled globally. Earlier, nearly 250,000 vehicles were recalled for a defective connecting rod bearing in the engine.
