NHTSA_Tesla Recall 2021The latest Tesla recall includes close to 500,000 affected vehicles and addresses potential failures in the Tesla trunk latching system, which could cause the front trunk latch to fail.  All Model 3 units released between 2017 and 2020, as well as certain Model S units are included in the recall.

Tesla has found that in the Model 3 the opening and closing of the trunk could cause the cable harness attached to the rearview camera to become damaged, and eventually fail. In the Model S the issue is different and more serious, as the front trunk latch may fail altogether, causing the front hood to fly open while the vehicle is in motion.

According to documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there are 475,318 vehicles that fall under the recall, 119,109 Model S vehicles and 356,309 Model 3 vehicles.
