Chrysler’s Parent Company Stellantis Announces Recall for 2017-2018 Pacifica Hybrids
An internal investigation by Stellantis, Chrysler’s parent company found that 12 fires occurred in parked, turned off, 2017-2018 Pacifica Hybrid models. Out of these 12 fires, 8 of the vehicles were plugged in and charging when the fire started. Chrysler is not aware of any injuries or accidents that were caused by the fires. Stellantis/Chrysler is encouraging owner of 2017-2018 Pacifica Hybrid models to keep their vehicle parked far away from other vehicles. They also advise NOT to plug in and charge their vehicles. Stellantis/Chrysler does claim the vehicles are still safe to drive.
Once a fix has been identified, Chrysler will contact owners, who canthen bring their vehicles in for free service at any Chrysler dealer. 16,741 of the affected vehicles are in the US, 2,317 are in Canada and an additional 750 are located in places outside North America.
The recall comes after General Motors Company’s recall of every Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV model. This was due to manufacturing defects in the batteries that increase the risk for fires. LG Energy Solution is the South Korean battery company that manufactures the batteries for both the Pacifica and Bolt models.
