2021 Ford Ecosport

Do you own a 2021 Ford Ecosport with problems? You could be driving a lemon.

The 2021 Ford EcoSport SUV has been subject to a number of complaints and concerns from owners since its release. These issues range from mechanical problems to safety concerns, and have led to recalls and technical service bulletins from Ford as well as filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). One of the most significant issues reported by owners of the 2021 EcoSport is transmission problems, occurring in both manual and automatic transmission. Many owners have reported difficulty shifting gears, rough shifting, and even complete transmission failure. In some cases, this has led to the vehicle stalling or losing power while in motion, creating a serious safety risk. Ford has acknowledged these complaints and issued several recalls and technical service bulletins related to transmission issues in the EcoSport. This is including a recall in March 2021 affecting over 35,000 vehicles. The recall was issued due to a faulty shift cable bushing, which could cause the vehicle to shift into gear unexpectedly or fail to shift at all.

Specific 2021 Ford Ecosport transmission complaints include:

  1. Shuddering and Jerking: Many owners reported that their Ecosport vehicles experienced shuddering and jerking while driving, particularly during acceleration or when shifting gears. This issue could be caused by a faulty clutch or other transmission components.
  2. Delayed Shifts: Some owners reported that the transmission was slow to shift gears, particularly when accelerating from a stop or when climbing hills. This issue could be caused by a faulty shift solenoid or other components.
  3. Gear Slipping: Some owners reported that the transmission would slip out of gear, causing the vehicle to unexpectedly slow down or lose power. This issue could be caused by a worn-out transmission or other mechanical issues.
  4. Grinding Noise: Some owners reported hearing a grinding noise when shifting gears, particularly when downshifting. This issue could be caused by a worn-out clutch or other transmission components.
  5. Transmission Failure: In some cases, the transmission in the 2021 Ford Ecosport would completely fail, rendering the vehicle un-drivable. This issue could be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty components, poor maintenance, or manufacturing defects.

Ford has acknowledged these transmission issues and has offered some remedies for affected owners, including repairs or replacements of faulty components.

Electrical System

Another common complaint from owners of the 2021 EcoSport is related to the vehicle’s electrical system. Many owners have reported issues with the battery draining quickly, even when the vehicle is not in use. This has led to problems starting the vehicle and even complete battery failure in some cases. Ford has issued several technical service bulletins related to battery drain issues in the EcoSport, including one in February 2021 advising dealers to update the vehicle’s software to address the problem.

Safety Features

In addition to these mechanical and electrical issues, 2021 EcoSport owners have also reported concerns about the vehicle’s safety features. Many owners have reported issues with the blind spot monitoring system, which is intended to alert drivers to vehicles in their blind spots. Some owners have reported that the system fails to detect vehicles in certain situations, creating a safety risk. There have also been reports of problems with the vehicle’s airbags and seat belts, although these issues have not yet led to recalls or technical service bulletins from Ford.

Overall, the 2021 Ford EcoSport SUV has been subject to a number of problems, complaints, and concerns from owners since its release. While some of these issues have been addressed through recalls and technical service bulletins, others remain unresolved. If you own a 2021 EcoSport and are experiencing any issues or concerns, it is important to take your vehicle back to the Ford Dealer for repairs and to make certain to keep records of the various repairs to your 2021 Ecosport. Had the same problem with my 2003 Nissan Pathfinder, turns out that it was the remote starter, drained the battery overnight, had it disconnected and no more problems except back to manual entry and start.

My 2021 Ford Ecosport was just dying, very unpredictable never any warning. Has stranded me at major intersections. Found out the auto stop/start function has issues that will cause this. Dealership had to “reprogram the chip”. If this is happening to you and the wrench and engine light is coming on (code P06E9), could very well be the issue. See TDS 21-2422. Very concerning, as I make multiple trips a year from Austin to Tulsa.

We have had several issues with our 2021 Eco Sport. Driving suddenly stops and leaves us Stranded. Service wants to use diagnostic to find problem. It has been in the Shop 7 times for Service. A new vehicle shouldn’t have these problems.

Got my vehicle April 2021. I’m on my 4th battery, it cannot detect outside temp, the miles to empty is way off from the gauge, had 2 different emissions problems, and I’ve had the engine replaced due to coolant leaking into the engine. I’m not in GA, just sharing my experience.

My ford ecosport sport is having problems with gears. It is difficult to change sometimes it will take me up to 30 minutes trying to changed them all especially in the morning. I even take 30 minutes to warm up the car with this expensive petrol.

My 2018 Ford Ecosport engine went out on me. I was driving and the message read low oil pressure. The speed dropped by itself. I called had it towed to the dealership. They told me I needed a new engine. Now the same exact thing in that order has happen to my 2021 Ford Ecosport. I need some help.

Bought a 2021 ecosport on 9.7.24 m day after water pouring through the roof, thought it was just a seal but dealer decided to put a new skin on the inside roof without telling me. It put me off so I exercised my right to a full refund of £15,495. None given, but said they’d found another ecosport for me. I got the car on 31.7.24 and after one and a half weeks I heard a whining/grinding noise intermittently. After another week my daughter also heard it, told a good local mechanic and he said take it straight back as it could be the clutch. Went straight to dealer on 20.8.24 and they booked it in 2 days later. They phoned me later that day to day that the clutch and flywheel was burnt out, it wasn’t yet 3 years old with just under 18,000 miles but it wasn’t covered under the warranty as it was my driving that caused the problem. Consumer rights helped me and I’ve twice asked for a full refund, but been told by their head office to go to the Motor Ombudsman. I did that and they have said they will investigate but there’s a minimum 6 month waiting list to allocate the case to an administrator. Two cars bought in 2 months from Parks Garage, Elgin both with serious faults but no refund being given. I have to wait another 5 months for the Motor Ombudsman to investigate before I can take them to Court. I drove the car into the dealership on 22.8.24 and on 23.8.24 I went in to take stuff out of the car. I tried to switch on the engine to check the mileage but there was no clutch, nothing there so car is undrivable and unsafe and has been sitting at their dealership since 22.8.24

I have a 2021 Ecosport which is causing problems. Dealer said I need a new alternator. One was put in but I am still hearing a grinding noise around the alternator. Same noise as before the alternator was replaced. Taking back to garage tomorrow.
